I have spent many a morning surgery removing socks and such things (once a whole pillow) from dogs bellies. I always wondered how this could be so, did people not have wash baskets? Did they not feed the dog?
Today I was back in the same situation, trying to make a dog vomit up a sock, as the owner calmly said that this was the third one it had stolen that week! Fortunately just as she said so out came a bright pink/slightly green piece of cloth, great no surgery today!
The truth is I'm sitting here now, Labrador at foot and can count several baby socks on the floor around me. Its not that I'm lazy, we do tidy up and the washer is on as I speak, but socks are just, well there.
Fortunately apart from carrying them around in her mouth (as quite worryingly baby-boo has started doing too!) my dog doesn't seem to have a taste for them.
So what can we do to stop these great sock/occasionally pair of knicker thieves? Its not that a deterrent spray would work because lets face it thats naturally in-built, especially with husbands socks! Or perhaps the smell is just part of the attraction!
I don't know, I'm not even going to suggest being more organised and putting things away because life gets too much in the way of that!
Anyhow it gives us Vets a laugh when we get to play guess the foreign body!
(I've heard of worse things being removed!)
